3:00pm Oxford St
I headed down to Oxford St to see what was going on there, the police intention at Euston was obviously to deter people from meeting up in the west end. Upon arrival I saw 15 to 20 riot vans charging up through the rain soaked streets in either direction. Sirens blaring I assumed that the protestors had managed to get into Nike town. I cycled up to Oxford Circus to see what was going on, only to find that the police were charging up and down Oxford St for no reason other than to cause public alarm. The protest eventually emerged up Regent St, and as I looked around hundreds of armoured riot police were surrounding the area.

It looked to me as if exactly the same thing was going to heppen here as at Euston. Cold, and wet and already having had enough of state sponsored agression I decided to leave, except that I couldn't, and nor could any of the shoppers or tourists.
You speak to the Armour clad hooligans on the east they say you can't get out this way go to the west, the ones on the west say go north and so on. I was not going to be caught in the same trap again, so spying an alley next to benneton I jumped over the fence and ran. Along side me ran a group of about 15 riot police attempting to get to the end of the alley before anyone could get out. So I fucking sprinted. Barging them out of the way as I ran I made it to the end before them and carried on running just incase any were following me. I had just made it out in time as they then managed to seal off the one way out. So I cut through Regents St which had now become the largest parking lot for Police meat wagons in the whole of the world, and looked up at the protestors surrounded by an army of tooled up, black clad, armoured, helmeted, sheilded thugs.
May 1st 2001 was a great day for our country.
Just one other picture, look at this cleverly diguised, famous coffee store on Oxford St and see if you can guess what it is. Obviously not going to let a major protest get in the way of making a few quid, the store that everyone loves to hate decided that rather than boarding up and sending their staff home, they would simply camouflage themselves.
I wonder if the manager or the staff though that would be a great idea?
