The Great Button Dialemma:
There is one simple way to spot a true gentleman from your average suit wearing ruffian, It all depends on how his suit jacket is buttoned. Two buttoned or three buttoned there is only one gentlemanly way of butting your jacket:
Two Buttoned Jacket:
Repeat after me "I WILL NOT BUTTON UP FULLY", Uncouth and Uncultured you will never see a gent with both buttons buttoned. The correct way to button a two buttoned jacket is to only button the TOP button and leave the bottom undone. Vise versa and you will quite simple look like an antipodean fool. See below:
Three Buttoned Jacket:
An even more complicated prospect for a chap in his dressing room. As before DO NOT BUTTON FULLY, however as you will realise with the wealth of combinations that a three buttoned suit brings matters can get quite confusing. The only bespoke way to wear a three button jacket is to only button the MIDDLE button. Not the top as with a two button or even the top two, but simply the middle. Simple and elegant a middle buttoned three button jacket is the sign of a man who knows how to dress in public.
Double Breasted Jacket:
Unbutton and throw away. A double breasted suit is the sign of an 80's yuppie reject, with matching shoulder pads and garish tie you will fit right into an EC2 wine bar. Do not however go to an EC2 wine bar, go home and think about what you have done.
